Cost of a new electricty connection to a new build

I have just recieved a quotation for an electricity connection to my new self build through scottish power the price seems a little high for what they actually have to do . (7,000 pounds)

The connection will be a single phase supply off the main line which already runs over my plot, the work involves installing a new pole with a mounted transformer(on my land) then running the cable 35 metres to the house through a trench I will dig and backfill myself.

Is this a fair price and the going rate or is there ways to reduce this cost.

Thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

They are the only organisation who can do the work so they have you over a barrel, sorry.

If there is not already a transformer on the pole already, I would say it is a true reflection of cost. The equipment alone will be over £5k.
