I'm going to ask a silly question here. I always thought carbolic soap was pink (I remember 'that' smell from the soap we had at primary school and the hospital I had to attend when young), but my friend says its green. Who's right?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

What about Wright's Coal Tar Soap - another blast from the past!:T
Came in a big yellow block and smelt like new tar. My mum used it for cleaning everything - including grubby kids!:eek:0 -
Yuk, I remember carbolic soap (pink) and Wrights Coal Tar (yellow) soaps! <shudder> I hate the smell of both :rotfl: I think the green one was Fairy wasn't it? I quite liked that one, and my mum used to use it as a stain remover before washing dirty clothes, scrubbing tidemarks on collars etc.
Personally I'm relieved that washing powder was invented

If you don't like the smell of carbolic soap there are other OS soaps you can try such as Palmolive, Pears and Cameo.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Well after someone kindly posted the Carbolic soap company website a few days ago, I went wild and ordered two bars of lemon scented household soap. (it was a BOGOF) and also some of the Pink stuff, (which is fantastic.)
Anyway, now that the soap is here I am not sure what to do with it or how to use it, or what it is best for.Any suggestions?

I tend to have household soap by my kitchen sink. I like it for giving my hands a good scrub.
It's usually good on laundry too, put a bit of water on a stain or on shirt collars and give the soap a good rub on the stain. Into the washer and it often works.
I would be cautious on using anything too strong on delicate fabrics, but I use the green Fairy block on all sorts of stuff.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
just looked at their website and noticed they sell washboards.
that took me back to 1980 when as a new young mum in my first home an aunt said dont worry about no washing machine I'll get you sorted. ~I was expecting a twin tub or spinner maybe or if I was very lucky her old washing machine as she had mentioned getting a new one.
She gave me gave me her washboard:eek: ....I can still remember trying to smile and seem grateful. It was a glass one I was terrified of braking it.
She gave me a quick lesson on how to use it and what it could be used with it.
It did work, my mussels grew quickly and so did my savings for a secondhand washing machine:rotfl:
If anyone is tempted to buy one......think twice;)0
