Web Design

Ok, so I have a domain and hosting, but need software for microsoft to design the site.

Front Page has been recommended as has Dreamweaver.

What do you guys think? Thanks

  • Front page is a bit naff and has been replaced with Expression Web now, and Dreamweaver is a bit pricy for a beginner (but pretty good). You could try Kompozer which is free and see how you get on.

Thanks for that! I was after a free one as this is all new to me and didn't want to be spending a fortune, which I saw Dreamweaver is! lol

Will take a look this evening!
  • Try NVu for designing the web pages and Gimp for image manipulation. Gimpshop is Gimp altered to look and feel more like Photoshop, for Adobe users. Inkscape will do vector graphics and paint.net is basically paint with some photoshop effects added.

On Windows I find Irfanview invaluable for viewing, resizing, cropping photos, it will also generate photo gallery pages with all the thumbnails for you.

If you want to save documents etc in PDF then Openoffice.org will do that.

    All free.

Visual Web developer is free, although you need to know what you're doing to use it.
  • I used to use front page and dreamweaver but since discovering netobjects fusion i wouldnt use anything else its simple and easy and creates proffessional looking sites, front page is useless and dreamweaver is difficult to get to grips with

  • If you have very basic knowledge on designing then you can go for CMS like wordpress, joomla etc.
