Outlook Express help

I've been trying to install Outlook Express on an XP service pack 3 netbook after rolling back Internet Explorer 7 to 6, as IE7 doesn't have OE as an integral email client. I thought that all IE7 settings had been removed and that the reinstall of IE6 with OE had been successful, but there is no sign of OE on the machine at all, and it seems that the IE7 settings are still there, even if IE7 isn't! Is there any way of installing OE separately with IE6?
I'm trying to do this as Thunderbird, that I have been using as a POP3 client, just refuses to download any messages from my mail server.
Thanks for any help given.

Have you considered the possibility that Outlook Express was never removed in the first place? It's probably still there - you just need to set it as the default mail client.
You can do this either from within Internet Explorer or by using the Set Program Access and Defaults feature.0 -
OK thanks, I'll try that.0
