Economy7 - but no storage heaters
I currently have a economy7 tariff with South Elec but no longer have storage heaters. Does anyone know if I should change the tariff?
I live in a very small house and don't use any heaters as I have a wood burner. I also don't have gas but am at home in the day between 2-3days a week.
My weekly bill approx works at about £15.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks

An easy way to check whether E7 is working out for you is to go to http://smartmeter.ukpower.co.uk/ with the figures from your bills in hand. Add the day and night together and treat as a single tariff and see how much it works out at on the single rate of your current plan.0

Well done for having a small electric bill, you are doing well.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Unless you've rigged everything like dishwasher, tumble drier and washing machine up on timers to work during E7 cheap rate, then it's almost certainly uneconomic to stay on a E7 tariff. How/when do you heat your water? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I check my usage when its coming up to the anniversary of my account.
I use over a third of my electricity at night so i`m better off on E7 at the moment but thats not to say that it will always be so.
I set the washing machine, dishwasher, bread maker, slow cooker and if i need it the hot water all to come on at night and i`m very happy with my bills.
It pays for me to stay on E7 and i don`t have storage heaters - my heating is gas, for the majority or if you`re not very organised then you will probably be better off on a normal tariff.
Jennyr68 has the best idea, take the readings and work it out.

Sunnyday has given you good advice on using the cheaper rate.
To add to this advice, to take full advantage of the E7 tariff without electric heating you must understand when you get the cheaper rate and see if your life style means you can save with it. The cheaper rates vary across the country, and even within the same town (where a mechanical time switch is fitted), so check yourself. Don't rely on what others tell you.
I am one of the lucky ones with a tele switch who gets the cheaper rate until 8.00am all the year round. I don't have electric heating, but 40% of my annual useage is at the lower rate.
If you have a mechanical time switch next to the meter you will see on the dial the on / off indicators. If you have a radio tele switch next to your meter, ring your local distributor (not your supplier) and they will give you the times.
Smart meters will bring a whole raft of new tariffs like E7, with much more flexibility of the cheaper rates.0 -
Contact Southern Electric who will change you over to the standard electric meter for free. Takes 2 -3 weeks after booking appointment.0
