It depends what the attachment is, e.g. if it's something like a Word 2007 document and you don't have Word installed or have an earlier version of Word, then you will receive this message.

The file name of the attachment could help.
  • Did you change the name of the attachment when you saved it? Depending on the e-mail program, this sometimes removes the extension. If you did this, try saving it again without changing the name.

Thank you all, I dont have word which I think could be the reason I cant open the folder.
  • If it is a word document, you can download a free viewer from Microsoft.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

Depending on who sent you the file and how desperate you are to read it you could email the sender and ask for something readable to be sent - like text.

Well if you answered justpassingbys post above and tell us the name of the attachment people can help. No point assuming it is word just because people mention it above when you dont know what it is in the first place. hmmmm

To avoid confusion and to help you search for solutions to problems in future, the correct term is a file (when referring to documents, pictures, music, downloaded programs, etc). A folder is a container for files (such as My Documents).
