I agree with the NA work if you are doing something in that field. I registered a week Friday with the local nurse bank, got a shift for the next Tuesday, during that shift got asked if I could so the Wednesday in the same department - couldn't though as had placement), got offered shifts for Thrusday and Friday - did the Friday shift. Following week got offered Friday night (turned it down), and did early on Sunday. Don't get much notice though - they often ring on a Thursday for the weekend, otherwise it's the day before

I've got a mate who is only 15 still and finished his GCSEs. He wants to get a job for the summer but can't because of his age - any ideas?

im in same position, and i'm 16... most places want 18 and over or permenantly.

and i live in an area which has a lot of tourism during the summer, yet nothing still. I been looking for the past 3 and a bit months and haven't found a thing.

    one word.. mcdonalds

working in a !!!!ty uniform, in !!!!ty conditions getting !!!!ty pay does wonders, trust me

at the start, esp for those who are 16 (which i was when i started) the pay is good, mainly cos your not used to the money

but then, when iwas 18, i had just finished my a levels, got my results, which were not good (my fault, i worked to many hours, this wwas not the fault of mcds, but of my own, for being greedy with money), anyway, crap results, standing cleaning the floor and i thought "im now a full timer in mcdonalds"

the next day i went to a F + HE college and registered, left mcds a few months later

2 years on.. as far a student jobs go.. im not in a bad position, and ive just come second out of 200 people who started my course

i had a weekend job before i left so i could study for my gcses.. funny you mention the hell tha tis mcdonalds because they;ve been advertising near me in 2 "restuarants" (i use that term very loosely) and they've insisted on over 18's only for all their positions.... which is weird because i always thought macdonalds loved cheap labour... next week it will be no under 18's, no british passport holders :D

yea they love the word restaurant!!

it wasnt so bad when i started, the about a year later they brought in philpinos.. i wasnt too badly affected as i was still studying.. well as you can se above not studying hard enough! but there was full time workers getting like 9 hours a week!

over 18 is strange considering that the minimum wage does not rise again until 23

i know that there are certain tasks you need to be 18 to do, but they are minimal, and anyway they are mainly carried out by the same people every night.
