British Gas - Even they are confused!
Options
Hey everyone.
I rarely visit the forums but my Mom and Sister are both regular lurkers/posters so thought I'd come here for a bit of advice.
My housemate and I (2 bed student let) received and paid a bill at the end of last month for around £136 following a meter reading. Yesterday another bill came through the post demanding around £140 and stating it replaced all other bills.
Confused, we rang British Gas and were told by an operator (Miss A) and her supervisor that the bill for £136 had ben returned to the bank account and they had not actually taken the money, chosing instead to replace our bill with this one. Thinking nothing of it, my housemate paid the £140 they were now demanding. However, on ringing Halifax to double check the original bill had money had never been taken out, we found that they had indeed taken and kept this money.
We rang back and got a different lady, who quickly passed us onto her supervisor (Miss
. This supervisor told us the staff in the previous phone call had been wrong and our bill was for £270 - so both amounts added together would cover it and as far as she was concerned we were now paid up to date.
We are now left entirely confused - was Miss B right and for some reason we have had two bills in one quarter demanding various amounts adding to £270 or has there been a major foul up and we have been over charged?!
I have the postal address for the Chief Exec of Centrica and will be writing to him shortly, but just wondered if any had similar experiences or can offer any advice?
Sorry if i haven't explained it very well, I must admit I am quite confused about the whole thing and feel lied to and cheated on by BG.
Many thanks,
H xx
*don't have the bills on me so the bills above are estimated to as close a figure as i can remember.

Ask for a full bill again and see what the bill for the Quarter was and that will sort out any confusion.
Then you will know if they owe you any money. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -
Hi,
They should be sending us one out according to one of the girls on the phone. I am most annoyed at the fact that someone has made a mistake here and one way, we get £130 back and the other it costs us and extra £140, Just dont see how it can happen.

All that matters is the readings on your meter and the readings on the bill. Have you used £130 or £270 worth of gas? Until you have worked that out other confusions are secondary.0
