Cancelling a Direct Debit

I will need to cancel a DD in a few weeks. On my online banking the DD is setup on there, and there is an option to delete it. If i do this, is that the same as going into the bank and asking them to do it? Will it still cancel the DD if i do it online?

In a word, Yes, I don't know who you bank with, but I bank with Smile and a list of direct debits is shown on you account. You can delete one by following the instructions, and once you have deleted it, the DD should no longer show in the list. Hope this helps.0

once you have deleted it, it cancels the direct debit so that the company cannot take any money from your account. You can also ask the bank over the phone to cancel it.
I would still contact the company and cancel it with them as well just in case they try and set it up again.0 -
The Company cannot take any money from a DD once it has been cancelled. If they do, you can claim it back under the DD guarantee. They must have your signature to claim anything.0
