Car Insurance Advice Please

On the 8th of May I was looking around for cheaper car insurance as my insurance had gone up by 50%, why I have no idea, (no claims made).
My original insurance was due to run out on the 26th May
I then checked out Insure and Go web site, and they quoted me a good price.
So I took out Insure and Go's insurance and paid the deposit of £50.00p by credit card, the insurance was then due to start on the 27th May.
The following day the 9th May, I phoned my original insurance company up to notify them that I would not be renewing my insurance with them.
I then got into a discussion with customer services and as a result they quoted me a better price to stay with them.
I told them that I had taken out another policy with Insure and Go, and was told that I could cancel that as the policy had not yet commenced and to ask for my deposit back under the 14 day cooling off period.
Now comes the problem I cancelled the Insure and Go policy on the 9th of May, so no actual policy was live, it was due to start on the 26th May, I hadnt even had the documents through.
Insure and Go are refusing to return the deposit, although they have cancelled the policy.
I have written to them and phoned them but no joy they just say that they will not return the deposit and there is no 14 day cooling off period.
I have disputed the payment through the credit card company for a refund, but they need conformation of my cancellation from Insure and go but they refuse to comply
So any advice please

The FSA ICOB rule 6.2.2 gives you the right to cancel a policy within 14 days from commencement of the policy or receiving the policy documentation (which ever is later)
http://fsahandbook.info/FSA/html/handbook/ICOB/6/4
ICOB rule 6.4.3.2 says they can only charge for services rendered and that the fee cannot be a penalty clause - £50 for sending out policy documents would certainly be a penalty clause.
Write to the insurer's complaints department requesting a written response within 14 days and state you will take the matter to the FOS if you do not receive satisfactory response as they are clearly in breach of the FSA's Insurance Conduct Of Business (incase you wondered what ICOB stands for
)
There response if nothing else will contain comment that the policy was cancelled for getting the charge back part going if you dont want to go down the FOS route. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Update
I wrote to the complaints dept of Insure and Go, they did not even reply.
So I made a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman, it appears that they did not reply to him either.
I then received a phone call from the FO's office asking for copies of letters sent, dates etc.
Today a cheque for the full amont came in the post so a result.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
Have you got a web site or details of how I can get in contact with the Financial ombudsman thanks0

https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk
The site will have details of addresses and contact numbers. When writing to them (not moneysaving, but send by guaranteed or recorded delivery), be as specific and as detailed as possible. Inlcude dates, times, names of who you spoke to adn the telephone numbers you dialled (as well as the number you dialled from). The more ammunition you give them to fire at that band of cowboys, the better their chances of sinking them.
Good luck.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0
