Windows 7 help needed!

My windows 7 has arrived (hurrah!)
I put the Upgrade Assistant disk in my laptop but nothing happens! What's wrong?
I thought it would be as simple as inserting the disk and following the instructions...?:o

It could be trickier than you think. Windows 7 doesn't support upgrading from XP, for instance, or moving up an edition (Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional, say), or upgrading from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. In these, and many other upgrade scenarios, you're forced to do a clean install, then reinstall all your applications and restore their various settings.
  • I currently have Vista

If I have to do a clean install what does this mean? I thought this was what the Upgrade Assistant was something to do with..? Laymans terms please! :o
