Am I being made redundant?

My employer is being bought out by a much larger company. I have been informed that in it's present form, my current role wil not be directly comparable with the role I may be performing in the new organisation. I suspect that I have a choice of two roles.

Am I being made redundant? Can I negotiate a redundancy settlement (acceleration of unvested shares and options) whilst accepting one of the new roles? (Yes, I want my cake and eat it).

No, its either redundancy or redeployment (although you could always ask - they can only say no). You could take redundancy from your current employer & then apply for the new roles as a new job applicant but you're not guaranteed that they would be advertised or that you would be sucessful
  • When my colleagues were made redundant by a financial merger a few years back they had to take redundancy and could not apply with the take over company for a job for a period of 12 months.
