Facebook, employment and privacy

  • My own Facebook is clean as a whistle. I'll happily accept colleagues' friend requests, but they'd be very disappointed if they were looking for juciy gossip...I lead too much of a boring life :)

Off-Facebook, where people don't know me personally, I'm very careful to disguise my true identity. My location is fake, my age is fake, and I always purposely post incorrect dates when referring to employment and education history, etc.

    £1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50600

HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500

    "3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600

You're not anonymous though even with false details! Any board admins can see which ip address you posted from and when so it can be tracked back to your internet connection anyway.....

I won't even start on web trackers that can be following you around giving you relevant advertising and nosing into just about everything you do online. :D

Oh, of course...I mean anonymous in order to evade any problems at work, etc.

However, regarding IP addresses, mine seems to change all the time. I'm no expert in these matters, but since I started using mobile broadband, those annoying pop ups you sometimes see ("meet a single girl TONIGHT!", etc.) that use your IP address to pinpoint an approximate location have been mighty confused, and have placed me everywhere between London and Leeds :)
