Hi Hoping someone can help. We had a debt years ago with eon and a prepayment meter installed. This was repaid some years ago. How do I get rid of my prepayment meter and get on to monthly direct debit?
A few years ago we changed to a key meter for a wile and when they wrote us a letter to say they needed to come and upgrade our meter we asked to change back. Now we have monthly DD and manage the account on line with paperless bills. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Hi woozle35,
In cases where prepayment is fitted where debt was built up by a customer at a certain address, our guidelines are that we won’t change these back to credit meters for the same customer.
I realise this isn’t what you want to hear, so I do recommend calling us to discuss this, as each case will have its own merits that need taking into account.

So reading between the lines, sign up in your wifes/husbands/dogs name and that will be fine to change the meter..
It really is like the energy companies WANT their customers to be deceitful to them..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Not how I meant it Plushchris, but I see how you've read it.
We will check the best we can to ensure this isn't happening in these cases. It's important we have such guidelines and that we stick to them.

I'd just like to say that EON were not very helpful when my tenants ran up a bill then changed the meter on my property then the tenants gave notice to quit and then EON refused to change the meter back despite me paying the outstanding amount from tenants deposit. Switching suppliers seemed the only way to get the meter changed.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Last I heard Southern Electric were changing meters free of charge, so if you want to get shot of a prepay meter and dont want to either pay a fee/deposit or sign up in someone elses name then you could try giving SE a ring to see if they will change it for free.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0

We did get into debt with you and pay it back, but eon forgot to change our meter settings so we ended up paying back over £500 to much. This only got changed after I came on this forum and explained how much my electricity costs were, and a rep from eon looked into it. I was given a refund.
Just to add we are paying at the moment £8- £10 a DAY.
Would it be better for me to change suppliers?0 -

Hi Woozle35,
As per my previous post, where prepayment is fitted for debt, it is extremely rare that the meter will be later changed to a credit meter.
However, as a result of the problems you've detailed above, you may well have cause for a review.
Each circumstance varies so it's hard to say for certain, but I think a call to us to discuss this wouldn't be a bad idea.
