Help! BT stole over £500 from me!

I’m desperate and I don’t know what to do...

I rented a standard BT line so that I could get virgin broadband in my home in Leeds.

Everything seemed to be going ok until one day out of the blue they sent me a bill for over £500 for call charges I never made, I DONT EVEN HAVE A PHONE!

Obviously I disputed this with BT (I could only ever get hold of an Indian call centre). Eventually they sent out an engineer to check the line (by then I had moved out of the rented property so I have no evidence of this). They said the line had not been tampered with and refused to pay me back the money...even though I never made any calls, don’t have a telephone in the house and have never heard of any the allocated “friends and family” numbers appearing on the bill.

With BT refusing to believe that I didn’t make the calls, an engineer saying the line was not tapped or faulty and only Indian call centres who never log my complaints I have not been able to get anywhere and have never managed to get back by £500 which they took by direct debit.

I wrote to Ofcom who never replied, and then to BT who never replied.

What do I do next?

BT never replied when I wrote to them twice. God knows why they call it a "correspondence centre", it would be more aptly named "shredding centre".

Not known a Bloody Terrible for no reason.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • As you can see a BT representative quickly responded...I did what he asked and he Still hasn’t got back to me!
  • Possibly not the reason for your call charges (I hope for you, they are some sort of billing mistake and that you get refunded) but I will point out that you don't need a phone for call charges to be added to your bill.

I got stung last year when one of my dear (cough) sons decided to get click-happy on an online games site to subscribe or get "items" for it. (in his defence, one of his friends had told him to "click on that cos you don't have to pay for it", but yes I should have trained him better in internet use) Each click automatically went onto my phone bill as a chargeable call - each call was £1.50 and the number was similar to
    09069 0699xx

Over £50 clocked up before I noticed. :k

I have premium numbers barred now, of course. :silenced:

You may be looky and the BT Rep passes your details onto the trained Indian Call centre monkeys to hassle you....like he/she did in my case...
