AA Renewal

It's probably been said before but it's well worth phoning up breakdown insurance companies before renewing.
My AA cover renewal for family came back as £291 ! I looked up RAC cover and it was over £100 cheaper plus cash back so phoned AA to cancell and they came up with an even better deal. 10 minutes to save £150 well worth the call.

I know some other companies are cheaper but they tend to only cover the one car and this covers four adults in any vehicle with the maximum caver including hire car etc if needed.

  • Just did the same thing with my insurance. Renewal quote from insurers for two cars was £718. Shopped around and found I could get more or less the same cover for £480. Rang original insurers to say I would not be renewing, and guess what? They reviewed my details and said they could reduce the renewal quote to £485.

In the past I've swapped between RAC and AA and you get new business discount. Now I just let RAC cover lapse for a day ad rejoin as a new member.
  • Its wrong though how they charge renewals more than new customers. We shoudl get a better offer!

Yes its wrong , loyalty means nothing to these companies.
So , play the game :rotfl:

Let cover lapse , and become a new member
OR just phone them and tell them the price you are prepared to pay .

They have whole teams of phone operators dedicated to keep your business.
Be polite , be prepared to spend a little time on the phone,
Don't take the first offer. Do your research .

I saved £83 for 15 mins on the phone.
Part of that was agreeing to do a ( on phone) house insurance quote .
Then I did the same in the afternoon , for my wife.
Did the ( on phone) house insurance quote , again , although I stated I had done it a few hours earlier.Got the quote , Paid by credit card .
Started the home quote , told the girl the answers before she got to the end of the question :D
Supervisor then interupted out 'conversation' , only one !! reduction per house hold , my quote got bigger:eek: Said calmly . already paid .
And will refuse to pay more :j

Play the game ..... and win!

do you have to sign up for continuous annual payment with the aa and rac please?

im in need of some cover, but i dont like the idea that they just debit my card/account every year - i would rather renew it myself.

    cheers
  • Yes, AA took my £28 payment by direct debit. But direct debits are so easy to cancel yourself - just log into your internet banking. :)

    " Insurance " ... Specsavers for you.:)
  • My car insurance is with M&S with RAC home start and car and house key cover the cost is £233 per year and last year it went down. The RAC cover alone is about £130.
  • Last year I called the AA to cancel and then rejoined via Quidco as a new customer - was cheaper plus I got £50 cashback :D
