Computer tower position

I am intending to alter the layout of my equipment.Usually towers are in the upright position. Is it safe to use today's models laid on their sides, providing air flow is not blocked?

In the old days people said that if you formatted your hard drive and install the OS when it was vertical then you must run it vertical. This is no longer an issue.

CD/DVD trays tend to have clips so they can work on their side.

Go for it, if it starts to make strange noises you can always move it back.
