Help! Am I too late to plant Sweetpea seeds?
I've finally managed to rustle up 12 empty loo roll middles to plant my sweetpea seeds in (I started late this year!) ... but I've kinda just realised that it's mid-february already!!
Am I too late to plant my seeds now? Or do I still have a little time left for doing it this weekend?
I do love sweetpeas to cut in the summer and I'll be gutted if I'm too late! But I'd rather that than try to grow them and nothing comes of them!

I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum
Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum?

It should be fine, you have reminded me to go and get a packet myself.:T
All that will happen is they will flower a bit later in the summer. :TKnow the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
Thanks Ada! Was getting a little worried then!
I saved some seeds from last years 'crop', so I wanted to see if they'd flower!
I also got some seeds from a wild patch of 'peony' poppies too ... I hope they come up ... they were beautiful!!
Oh, come on summer!! I cant wait to see what flowers!I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum

Hi, No it's not too late, you can sow them now.0 -
Sowed about forty pots last week, going to do another lots next week and again 2 weeks after that. Good time of year to sow them, the show people, I believe, sow theirs in October to get them in flower sooner.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Most people plant too early. I made that mistake last year with many types of seed.
Going to do a big seed fest next week with the kids.
Mind you may just sneak some sowing this afternoon, getting itchy fingers lol.
I planted some sweetpeas in rolls last year too early and they went a bit leggy before they went out. The ones I did later flowered much better. Mind you we are in the north west so get later frosts, but had some sweetpeas right up to the start of October. So sometimes its more about the seasons and watching for the frosts than watching the actual dates.

mid feb is fine. I sow them over a month or so. I tried loo rolls last year and the crop was poor compared to pots or trays."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

If you have any empty plastic milk cartons either 2lt or 4lt , Cut them below the handle and make a few holes in the bottom for drainage , Your Sweet Peas will be able to make a good root system , This is better than soggy loo roll at planting time that's how I start all my peas and beans .0
