I've set up a forum via the Proboards site but I'm finding it tough to attract new members........in fact, I've got 0 members!
It is a forum based on folk music. There aren't many forums around dedicated to this genre of music.
How can I attract new members?

You would need to visit like minded forums and be a bit cheeky and advertise yourself. OK, the mods will probably remove the links in time, but if people see it and like it, then they will spread the word.Pants0

Do you have a link perchance? I might join;)0

can you not write the address on a small piece of bunting and attach it to your beard? Then when people see you they'll say "What's that hanging from your beard" and you'll say "What...this?" and they'll say "no...I know what that is...it's a piece of pork pie, just to the left...above the small mouse eating a crisp...that piece of bunting" and you'll say "aha....this is the address of my new forum" and they'll be impressed and tell their friend and visit.
Apologies for the beard generalisation, you may not have one and it's rude of me to assume you have, you may be too young to grow one.
All I can really suggest is promote it yourself when you go to gigs. If you know some of the artists ask them to join the forum and they may spread the word as they tour.
What I can say though is the more people interested in the subject, the faster it will grow, I'm involved (staff) on 2 forums, one has after 6 years a membership of around 6000, the other hit 30, 000 plus within 6 weeks.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
There may not be many folk forums around, but compare yours to those of artists such as Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons.
It may be a loss leader, but perhaps find some cheap merchandise or tickets on ebay and flog them off as competition prizes..
How you'd advertise this is another question though.Marketing and web design guy. FIRE enthusiast.0 -
You could try asking on the forums at folkradio.co.uk, either they willl welcome you with open arms or see you off with pitchforks and scythes...........that's depending on the quality of the real ale they have been drinking!0
