Yes it is, it's fine, alternatives are 6mm Wedi board and 6mm Lux board. It's actually part of their design remit. However I'm not suggesting dot and dab but a reasonable layer of combed adhesive assuming the blockwork is reasonably flat.

I was a tiling contractor for many years before I started my current business, we used these systems extensively to solve problems that would otherwise take a wet trade to rectify (therefore cost time and money).

The mechanical grip of a polymer modified adhesive on a primed block wall will not be overcome by the weight of regular wall tiles. In fact the mechanical grip of that adhesive is enough to hold 20mm thick stone, the block would fail before the adhesive.

I agree but I'm looking on the black side and assuming its not flat. When is it ever?

Compared with the time and money that the OP will spend putting up cement board to level up with existing plasterboard?

I agree totally and thats why I said such should be used rather than drywall addy.
