Chargeback for Visa Debit Cards

I recently paid for some training with a cheque for £4000 plus a Visa Debit card payment of £887.50 and now the company has gone into administration. I also paid for an exam with the same company using the debit card for a further £340.75. Is it possible to reclaim the whole amount (including the £4000 cheque) via the Chargeback system, or can I just reclaim the amounts debited via the debit cards, or can I not reclaim anything?

  • Can you not stop the cheque to the company or is it too late?

  • No unfortunately the cheque has gone through as the initial payments were in November 2009, with the exam payment being Feb 2010.

You may be able to charge back the Debit card payment of £887.50, but as you paid by Debit card not Credit card then Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act does not apply, and you bank has absolutely no liability for the £4000 payment by cheque.
  • Thanks, I wasn't sure if the £4000 could be linked, so I think you have answered my question. I will go ahead and try to reclaim the £887 and £340 via the Visa Debit chargeback system.
