OMG i just remembered something..check your Clio bonnet catch assembly. Make sure it is cleaned and greased so that it operates smoothly. To clean it,give it a spray with WD40 or similar, wipe nice and clean, apply new grease, work it well in.

It isnt a design issue, its a maintenance issue. The one on the vid is grotty and hasnt been lubed in years by the look of it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Take it and get it done for her? Don't even need to tell her.Just don't want to panic the GF as her last car was never out the garage and cost a fair bit.
I know what she's like and as she loves the car she may see it now like her old one, even if I explain its maintenance rather than a repair.
As previously stated they rec changing it at 5yrs/72k, which ever comes first.
I am annoyed at the garge anyway as they wouldn't accept a bankers draft, as it was from a bank not a building society! Then they said we never asked about bankers drafts. (We did as the manager made a joke when we asked you to make it payable to). That cost me £10 to get issued.
Anyways,
Thanks for the quote info, feel a bit better with those costs

If you intend to keep the car and you dont have absolute crystal clear proof of the SH (not just a tick/stamp in the book) change the timing belt kit. The seller doesn't have to do it but it will buy you peace of mind.0

Thats a good call, i remember when I had my clio, got a letter through from renault about faulty catch assemblies. (or something) however my clio got written off by the time i'd got the letter!0 -
I always thought a cambelt shoul;d be changed around the 80K mark.... if it has been serviced by the dealer, they would have done it if needed doing.
theres no real generic measurement for a timing belts lifespan. its all dependant on the manufacturers service interval....work permit granted!0 -
If you have any doubts it not been done, do it ASAP. I just brought a van, it bad it 5 miles then the cam belt went. This could cost me well over the price i payed for the motor!0
