Hi all,

In the next week or so we're planning on re-launching the forum rules. We've spent some time compiling and codifying them, and now have everything in one place.

Please have a read and let us know what you think.

Thanks

Insert From Martin

Just a little more detail on this. For years we've had rules in many different places on the forum with an initial guide linked as a board. THat guide is poorly read and there is often confusion about what the rules are.

As such we wanted to codify them and put them in one easy access place. We will soon be launching a new tidier top of the forum which will link to them cleanly (and in less space than currently we hope). It also enables us to respond to questions about why we do thinks with a link to the section of the FAQ that explains it.

This new section will supercede all previous rules.

If there is any guidance or rules we are missing do let us know.

First glance, Very pretty, smart and tidy format :D I might consider reading them for a change, thanks.
Hope you've included one for the loyalists beating us, the hermits :snow_grin and lesser savvy ones, up with that money saver stick.

    Looks great.

Needs a very good proof read though - lots of little errors and wrong words eg reply instead of rely etc.

Also think it is hilarious you threaten to charge £40 per hour for dealing with a banned member who re-registers.

Why not add the post count needed for different levels - MoneySaving Stalwart, Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan etc etc. I have seen a couple of people ask about them before.

That's already in the established terms & conditions which you have agreed to abide by ;)
9.9.2 Charge offenders for the administrative costs of identifying and removing their posts at the rate of £40 per hour necessarily spent plus any external costs that we incur.

Easy to read and understand. Also answers a lot of frequently asked questions.

Is this intended to replace the existing forum rules or as a faq item to supplememt the rules?

Whilst I agree that the faqs are easy to read and explain how the rules are applied (as well as answering some other faqs regarding the forum) and hence are ideal as a source to answers, they are in total very long and require a number of clicks to read each and every question.
I suspect many newcomers would be put off attemting to read each & every question & answer in an attempt to understand the forum rules, and hence would like to see this as an addition to rather than a replacement for a list of rules as currently exists. :)

I think it's all ok :). Most forums have long and complex rules and terms, so I don't see those in here as a problem. The site has to spell things out, whether users are prepared to read them or not.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
