Made redundant, when can I claim JSA?

Hi,

I've been working in a role to do with the swine flu pandemic, on a 6 month contract due to end in April, however this week I've been told that due to the pandemic ending my last day of work will be on Friday and instead I will recieve 4 weeks pay in lieu of notice.

My question is when can I start claiming JSA as I won't recieve this payment til my wages at the end of Feb, can I claim from my first day unemployed (ie Monday) or do I have to wait until after I've recieved my redundancy payment?

Comments

  • You can claim *after* your last day, irrespective of whether you've been paid or not. All those details will be filled out in your application.

Call your Job Centre Plus on 0800 0 55 66 88 and arrange a meeting for Monday at your local branch. You can probably fill in the form over the 'phone as well.

    Good luck!
