Advice needed on executor

Has anyone had any experience of changing an executor, after the person has died?
A close relative of mine died recently and had left his Bank to be his executor. Now we are trying to deal with his affairs, it turns out that his local branch down the road no longer deals with this but has referred it all to their executor department, about 200 miles away. We were hoping for a bit more support, as he seems to have had quite complicated financial affairs. Is there anything we can do to change? Would the Bank maybe agree to hand over the job?
I know they will charge a percentage of the estate, and wonder if anyone knows if we are about to be charged more than is strictly necessary? (which might mean the bank won't agree to hand over the job?)

To be honest I'm confused as to why you are dealing with your late relative's affairs if the bank has been appointed executor -as they charge on a %age of the estate it doesn't matter how long they take.
I worked once in an office that dealt with people's estates and alot of the work was done by telephone / letter so it was felt that it didn't really matter where the office was based in relation to the location of the deceased.2014 Target;

The point is that the Bank is now a distant office: important papers would have to be posted , and face-to-face advice isn't an option. This wasn't the situation when the will was set up, several years ago. I'm a close family member, so that's why I am involved.
I wondered if anyone else had found themselves in this situation, and what they did about it.0 -
Dont think you can change the Executor, once the person has died.
My Solicitors Charge £170 per Hour for Executor!!0 -
When my Mum died she had named as executors, me and my sister and on the recommendation of the solicitor who drew up the will, named the solicitor herself. I was with my mum at the time and neither of us realised the implications of this.
After my Mums death i got in touch with the solicitor and said it wasn't really what my mum wanted, she hadn't thought of it before it was suggested to her, and could we change things.
I think we were lucky, for the small cost of a letter, the solicitor gave up her right to act, i know she didn't need to and it was just an act of good will.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
