Short Break in Prague

Options
I've just booked three nights, four days in Prague at Easter. Leaving Easter Sunday (nice day flights) coming back on Wednesday evening from Manchester and then staying in a nice 4* hotel B&B and it's costing £280 for the two of us for flights and hotel which I thought was pretty good.

Flights with Jet2 and booked hotel direct.

  • hi i am new to this site this is my 1st post. ive just got back from week in prague - it was fantastic! DONT change your money in this country - you will get a much better rate of czech crown in prague itself, there are plenty of bureaus all offer better rates than england. if you are a smoker you can smoke in most places in prague and you can bring back 3200 for personal use! hope this info is of some help.

If you are using the Metro, tram or buses, make sure you VALIDATE yout ticket with the little machines at the entrance of the Metro stations or onboard the tram & bus. The inspectors are very good at picking out 'foreigners' who won't realise to do it. Thankfully we were warned before we went too.

Getting from the airport to the centre of Prauge is very easy by bus then Metro is much much easier than you might think and a heck of a lot cheaper than the airport taxis. I think it is bus 119 but can check if anyone wants.

I got caught with the ticket thing in Prague in 95.. I hadn't validated it and was caught by the guards. I put on my 'Ignorant Brit' act and said very slowly 'Sorry I dont speak Czech' and he answered in almost perfect English! Needless to say I was fined!
You're right.. I'ts bus 119 to Dejvicka metro station and from there you can pretty much get anywhere on the metro.
I'm off there in a couple of weeks. Apparently its very smoggy during the summer, although I've only ever been in autum/winter time before so I can't vouch for that.
Its a lovely city with loads to see.

We went to Prague in May 2 years ago and it was well in the 30s then - I got burnt walking round the city as I just wasn't prepared for it to be that hot. Can vouch for the ticket thing - ignorance/being English is not seen as an excuse and you have a very good chance of getting fined if you don't validate properly. But if you stay right in the city - staying in the Old Town can be lovely and doesn't need to break the bank - you don't need to use transport. We stayed 4 days and only used transport to go up the hill to the castle. We walked the rest of the time - there is so much to see in fairly compact area so we decided to get us some exercise. It is a beautiful city - enjoy :)
