Cheap mattress protector or pricey one?

What is the difference between the cheap mattress protectors and more expensive ones?

I've seen Silentnight quilted double duvet protectors for £10 in TJ Hughes (spotted one for £8.50 on ebay), a 'no-name' brand in Wilkos for £6 and a Primark one for £4. Is there a difference in quality between these?

I've never bought one before!

We recently bought one from Wilkos for my son's bed, it is more of a disposable than one that will last and I would not recommend. I suppose it depends what you want it for. A pricey one is more likely to last longer. Hope this helps

I'd like to think a pricey one might last longer but it's not always true! Thanks for the tip though.

I wouldn't spend a huge amount on one - I've tried both and even the more expensive ones seem to shrink when they are washed and tumble dried and then they rip when you put them back on the bed. I now buy the bigger size so buy a king size for a double bed etc and I tend to go for the cheapest of the John Lewis ones - they have quite a few just now with some on special offer

  • mine was from Primark a few years ago (5 quid) -- seems to have survived fine. maybe the pricier ones are thicker, I dont have anything to compare it with.

the cheapy ones we tried on the kids beds where like a single layer plasticised j cloth, they rustle if not pulled tight, also get hot & sweaty on them in summer, (the kids snook them off the beds at the earliest oportunity as hated them ) the more expensive have a few layers our s
have slightly quilted top, they dont feel or look like protectors but do work , proven by spilling drinks on them

    Hi

I would go to Dunelm, they have breathable completely waterproof protectors which are discreet and comfy that wash well and last well, I have had mine for a few years. They stand up to projectile vomit and any drinks or wet beds. About a tenner, they can go in the dryer too, if you dont have one nearby they have a website, well worth the money though :)

My lovely new kids mattresses look as good as they day I bought them

I'm not sure what type of mattress it is! I've just moved in to a rented, furnished house so I didn't buy it myself. Does it make a difference? I'm after a quilted protector or fleecy one, but not waterproof. It's really more for comfort that anything else!

If you have a memory foam mattress then you are better off with a thin mattress protector. If your mattress is just uncomfortable then you would be better off with a really thick one. If your mattress is uncomfortable because it is worn out, then get your landlord to replace it.
