Double Glazing

Hi
We bought our house late last year and knew we needed to do a few bits. One of the things we want to do fairly soon is the windows as they are currently single glazed.
My OH has organised 4 different companies to come round this weekend to quote but I was wondering how much I should roughly expect.
We have 4 massive windows about 6 1/2 ft by 3 1/2 ft and two smaller ones.
Thanks in advance

It would depend of the company I would say, probably the local ones will be slightly cheaper. Try not to make any decisions there and then, but be warned that the salesmen are very pushy and you might need to chuck them out.
Get the quotes and decide afterwards.
Good luck.
Sorry I cannot help you with any prices.0 -
As jimmo said be prepared to have plenty of time, once salesman get there foot in the door they dont like to take 'no' for an answer0

Save yourself some time and avoid the hardsell. Give them a maximum timelimit for measuring up, discussing their products and providing a quote.
Tell them you want to hear their best figure straight away and this must be their final offer, if they need to speak with their manager do it before providing any quotes as not revised offers will be considered.
Make it clear you will be signing nothing that day as you will need time to consider all quotes.
Good luck and be firm

Has anyone else had the same problem as I am having? I have been phoning round the various big companies to get someone out to give me a quote for windows and doors in a 3 bed house, and they are most loathe to come unless both I and hubby are present. Now, obviously when we make our decision and sign up to an agreement, we will both be available, but the plan is that I would be the one to take the day off and do the donkey work then we would both sit down and go over all figures etc together over a glass of wine before making our decision. Clearly the main idea is hoping to get round you not signing there and then because only one of you is there but Weatherseal have actually turned down our business simply because I said he would not be around at the first consultation, and Everest and CR Smith were both most unhappy about having to agree to see just me. They were also unhappy about being asked to come out during the day and kept trying to edge me towards the evening slots, with one local company even stating she would have to check with her manager as she was not allowed to organise a day slot. I also felt they would be able to see better what needed done if they came in daylight as any evening slot at this time of year is going to be in the dark. I just want to get all over and done with in one day and not have one salesman per evening for a week.
Starting to think these people do not actually want the business. Presume it will be fairly expensive and would then need to organise an extension to mortgage to cover cost so will not be starting work for perhaps another month.

if anyone says OH must be present, then dont even let them into your house.
its just a sales tactic. and that says a lot about the company concerned.
forget the big nationals and use a small local company.Get some gorm.0 -
Start here to get an idea of prices.

I did this and when the salesman turned up I told him what I wanted and what I was expecting it to cost. It caught him off guard, but he was home in time for his tea!0 -
Just as an update on this Everest sent round the smarmiest little excuse for a salesman ever who basically spent half an hour edging towards 'well, if I can just come back when you are both here....Everest have 31 different things they offer that no-one else does and it would take too long to go over them all twice...(I assured him I could take notes and he then had to get a list out as he obviously did not know them)...finally culminating with 'well, how about we just leave it there and you contact us again when both you and your husband will be here and be ready to hear all we have to offer'...
He had already long since lost my interest but I felt since he had come round and I had taken the day off the least he could do was measure the windows and provide a quote so I assured him I was perfectly willing to hear all he had to offer, I had all day if required and he would need to measure up for the figures, He made the most desultory measure up ever then left promising to swend me a quote ASAP - that was about 3 weeks ago and nothing has come through yet.
We have meantime decided to go with a small family company local to our area and who came recommended by people known to us0
