RAM upgrade

Hi....I need to upgrade my RAM from 256 to 512mb or 1gb to allow me to run some software more successfully.

Please can some of you advise which is the best option in each catergory (512 and 1gb) and how much I should be paying for each.

Also I 'm told there are different types. How do I find out what sort I need for my PC ?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Jimmy

I hope you get some replies on this as I have been in tears over my stupid computer tonight. My DS tells me that the little bit of RAM we have is crap and way to small. I have now banned them from the computer for at least a month while I do my dissertation. Needless to say they are not best pleased with me.....

Here's hoping for some successful ideas on RAM.

512 is a reasonable amount for the average XP PC.

if its video editing updating to 1gb of ram may not be enough you may have to upgrade to a dedicated graphics card this also goes for games

if its just number crunching you should get by with just the memory upgrade

I got a 512mb stick from Crucial for my Dell to make it 768mb in total. It's made the world of difference and only took a couple of minutes to fit.

  • Cheers everyone. I think I'll go for 1gb option. It's not for video editting but for the little extra cash I may as well have loads of RAM.
