Estate Agent Astounds me...

I rang Edward Mellor today to view a house, they asked if I was cash or motgage, I said mortgage..... She started the talk about thier mortgage advisor, (who i've seen already last year), so I tell her that I have an ofset mortgage and would be continuing with that arrangement.

She asked for my mortgage in principle, but my offset doesnt offer this, and will only confirm a mortgage based on an offer or a planned offer on a specific house.

She then refused to book me a viewing, because they were so busy, and without the mortgage in principle, it was a waste of time to them and the seller to arrange appointments!!! (the house is empty ...)

I've viewed houses with these last year, I was close to an offer once, but the cost of work meant it wasnt worth it. When I pointed out that I'd never been asked for the Mortgage thing before, and that i receive regualr emails with houses etc, and that I was a serious buyer and not a time waster....... (breath, breath.....) she said "but that was last year when we were quiet, we're too busy now"

!!!!!!? Did I miss something? What happened?

Bloody Fuming!!! :mad::mad::mad:

Rant over, thanks for listening (reading...:T)

    If the house was occupied I'd suggest knocking on the door and telling the owners what you've said above. But if it's empty....
  • They can't discriminate like that - I should know I'm an EA (please don't consider me like some Ea's or send me to hell!). Complain to the odbudsman, though verbal conversations are harder to prove. Hope you find a decent EA - we are not all bad!

    I'd still suggest you post a note through the door because if it was me selling the house and I found my estate agent was doing that I'd be fuming.

    Good luck

    walk into the shop and ask again to give you a viewing on the property . Look them straight in the eye if they refuse ask them to give you their reasons in writing also tell the seller

    Yeah, I'd post a note through the door informing the owners of whats happening. Could save them a % or two.

    By the way, I used to have similar trouble with Connells. Several times I approached them to ask about properties and when they learnt I wasnt interested in their mortage service, they flatly told me they had no suitable properties on their book, despite the adds in their windows and on rightmove.
