I have to say, I am not a supporter of the Socialist Labour Party (who is?) but I agree with the principle of Ricky's reasons for standing for this Liverpool constituency. The 'parachuting' in of a non local, 28 year old, upper class, London based woman to be the prospective parliamentary candidate of this safe Labour seat smacks of complete indifference to the local population and the very reason why people are turned off politics. Who, in this predominantly proud working class constituency would want someone from London to represent them? What an earth would she know about what makes them tick, she couldn't even answer some simple questions about Liverpool and its history. This proves that the Labour party is simply not in touch with ordinary people.
If Ricky Tomlinson were to stand as an Independent MP, not representing some barking Leftie fringe party, he would almost certainly be an MP in 3 months time.

"If I get nominated, it would be an awful cut in wages. But I just think the state of British politics is abhorrent," he said.

"She is a budding "career politician" an a member of the Co-operative Party. Ms Berger is also a school governor and sits on the steering group of the London Jewish Forum. She has a Masters Degree in Government, Politics and Policy from Birkbeck College and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Birmingham"
Sickening. More 'career politicians' that have spent their whole life on committees is definitely not what we need. Good luck Ricky.0 -
Played cards in the pub with this bloke.
Absolute hoot. He certainly didn't need to "act" in The Royale Family!0 -

Even Cherie has stepped in, telling voters what to do in true New Labour fashion:
"CHERIE BLAIR has defended the selection of non–locals like Labour's embattled candidate for Liverpool Wavertree, Luciana Berger.
The wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair said voters did not necessarily want local candidates, instead they wanted someone who had "star quality" and would do their best for the constituency."0 -

Ricky was a famous trade union activist, known for being one half of the Shrewsbury two, he served time in prison for his actions and beliefs.
Can just picture his first speech, scratch of the widger and then Labour party my ar5e'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
