Recently bought a wii off ebay and it has a few things on it that i'm haven't a clue what they're for.
1) The homebrew channel.
2) Backup Launcher 0.3g.
3) Forecast channel and news channel.
4) Mii channel
Can someone give me plain answers as to be honest not very technically minded.
Thanks

LOL - your wii has been 'softmodded' to allow it to play backups of games, forum rules prevent many answers, but google should help.
The mii channel is official and seems pretty pointless to me.
forecast = weather forecast (put in your home location)
news = ...well..I bet you can guess

can this be removed and if so how do i do this ?0
-
Removing the homebrew channel can be done by simply deleting it with the channel management in the Wii system software. That *should* be enough.0

Unless you understand soft-modding and homebrew, be wary as you can 'brick' you console if you are not careful.
Basically, this means it is rendered useless - ie as much use as a brick ...0 -
is it best to just reformat the system?0

If you don't want the homebrew channel or backup launcher, just delete the channels as advised previously.0
-
It depends on whether there are any download games in memory from the Wii Shop channel you may want to keep, but I would not be happy with a modded console - others might well disagree ...0

Don't worry! The softmods to put the homebrew channel and backup launcher will not affect the wii in any way if they are removed.
There can be problems when they are being installed onto the wii, but this is only if it is done incorrectly or by somebody who doesn't know what they are doing.
If you don't want them on your wii, it is simply a case of going into the options section from the wii homepage and deleting the channels you don't want.
Also, if you ever have to send your wii back to nintendo for repair, these channels definitely need to be removed before you send it back, otherwise they refuse to repair it.0 -
Possibly you could update the wii too the latest firmware this should sort most things out??0
