Options
I have just recieved this in my inbox, its a SCAM email. Do NOT open the attachment. Worldpay website says this

IMPORTANT NEWS: Bogus email: in the last few hours some customers have received at least one email from a 3rd party pretending to be WorldPay - some using the bogus address merchant@uk.worldpay.com / shopper@uk.worldpay.com and the name Dave Gollick - but other names and addresses may also be used. This email is not from WorldPay - we recommend you delete it and do not open any attachments it may contain.

Hello

My name is Dave and I am from the Support of WorldPay.

We have received the payment order (ID 0220712,Receipt Date
09/07/2006) from you and we need to
make a verification of the details you have filled in, as we have
received a notice from your card
service stating that there was a chargeback made by the owner of the
card with which you have made
the payment and that your level of authorization has been altered
during your last transaction.

This is a very serious matter. We have deducted the amount of the
chargeback, GBP 149.89, from
your account and added our standard fee of GBP 24.00 as well (you can
see your payment details in
the attachment).

We have failed to contact you using the telephone number you have
provided earlier, meeting no
response.

As a precaution, we have limited access to your account in order to
protect against future
unauthorized transactions. Please understand that this is a security
measure intended to help
protect you and your personal information.

Please contact your credit card company to resolve this matter.

Best Regards,
Dave Gollick

Wouldnt say it is a scam just a simple virus distribution... they aint phishing for details as they tell you to contact your own card provider but tell you to open the attachement for further details of the transaction

i got it as well deleted it as i thought it was a scam
  • I had one also and the odd thing is, that it was addressed to a different email address to mine-so how did I get it? Ive had a couple of others also, saying they are going to take money from my account. I never ever click on the links, I report to spoof@ebay. When I reported it to paypal I got no reply-not even an automated one.
Ichecked all of my accounts online with my paypal and email eccounts closed. These links are worse than a virus-depending where they take you and where you sign in afterwards they can install keyloggers etc. Never ever click on them.

Opening the attachment is the crucial part! It was a zip file. Now-since when did worldpay, paypal or ebay send zip files! It was probably an .exe-no way do I open them! The part about contacting your provider is possibly the next step-keylogger installed(or suchlike)then you log into your account to put things right and they now have all of your details and complete freedom with your money.

  • Hi,
For internet businesses, it is recommended that you get the business account for obvious reasons. You can get more information from www(dot)merchantacquring(dot)co(dot)uk.
  • Hi,
