Mosquito killer for the Carribean/Dom Rep

Hi all,

We are off to the Dom Rep in early September and cannot seem to be able to buy a reasonably priced plug in mosquito killer with appropriate refill tablets.

All the plug in killers that you can buy from the Asda etc. have european two pin connections.

American two pin fittings are different

Please can anyone assist us

Many thanks

Leo

    Pretty certain Tesco did one.

Also if you are looking for insect repellant that you spray on yourself for an evening look for one that contains a high amount of deet in it as this is what the blighters dont like I use an American one called Bug Off and not been bitten. When I used Jungle Formulae and Autan I used to be a mosi banquet

If you have no luck pick one up at the airport..Bug Off is excellent.
Some hotels even have them for you to use. If you can e-mail the hotel your staying they will let you know if they have ones for the room.

Take some of these https://www.travelwithcare.com/browse.asp?catID=689&prodID=HS011 if you like sitting out at night on your balcony they are a must
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

I've heard that vanilla candles work well.

Also some people seem to say that avons skin so soft works for them. it isn't a known mosquito repellent but people have swore buy it.

But we just used the 2 pin euoropean ones with a american adapter plug which we got from poundland when we went to the dominican.

On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

I bought a mosi machine from Matalan and just used my adaptor plug to power it. Citronella oil is hated by mossies, you can buy it from health food shops or market stalls selling essential oils - dilute it well and buy an empty travel sprayer and spray it on exposed skin. You can also put it in ashtrays on the balcony to keep the blighters away when you are sitting out at night.

The other alternative we have used is the boots aftersun with insect repellant - never had a problem with that but it can work out expensive.

This year we went to Barbados and used citronella oil (£2.89 and it will last forever) and a tub of aqueous cream (£3.59) as an aftersun moisturiser. We all came home bite free. Hurrah!!

    Hi all.

I have just had a look at the post by tranmererovers who mentioned that they used an adapter plug to power their mozzie killer.

I have had another look at the european and american adapters that I have and I think I now know what to do.

As I have said in my post above above, the plug in fly/mozzie killers that I have are the european two pin style plug which will not fit directly into an american two pin socket because the pins are too wide apart.

    How does the following sound?

Firstly, plug in the adapter that converts the american two pin socket, into a standard british three pin socket.

Secondly, plug into the british three pin socket, the two pin european mozzie killer, and hey presto......a working mozzie killer

It will fit into the two lower holes which I assume are the live and neutral. The uppermost hole is the earth connection.

Does this make sense to you. (It does to me, but I am NOT an electrician)

Let me know what you think
