Navman s70 3d sat nav problem.......

Hi all,
I'm having an ongoing problem with my sat nav(Navman s70 3d).For a while now when we've tried to use it when we put in the postcode, address or area ,it then comes up with a "calculating route"(as usual) message but never comes up with it.We have tried resetting it numerous times but doesn't seem to get the satalite signal.
I tried going onto the Navman website (Crap to say the least)to look for a download for this model but there doesn't seem to be one.I then tried to send them an e-mail via the site but TBH its pants to use.......
Any help would be very appreciated ,we haven't used it much although we have had it a fair while,so far really not worth the money we paid....
many thanks Leveller

IIRC a Navman (like every other satnav I've used) won't show you a route until it knows where it is, so you are probably right and it's not picking up the satellite signals - but bear in mind that it may take a long time (15-20mins outdoors with a clear view of the sky) to work out where it is after a reset, as it has to rebuild its internal almanac.
If it really is never getting a lock, there are a lot of things that could go wrong, but one possibility is that the internal patch aerial has failed - they can be a bit fragile and may break if it's dropped.0 -
Hi Fwor,
Thanks for the reply. We went away for the weekend and travelled 120 miles and still no joy with it.I'm sure its never been dropped and I don't have much confidence in Mio 's website either.I should add its been left in the glove compartment of the car for about 6 weeks and we've tried to use it on numerous occaisions in that time. Its also been charged via the 12v cig socket. Is it possible its got damp inside??...cheers again..ps If it is the "patch aerial" is it fixable? if so financially worth it?.......Only used the damn thing about a dozen times......0 -
If it's several years old it's probably not worth fixing because the maps will be getting out of date by now anyway.
You could try contacting Navman to see if they will replace it for free, but last time I tried them they were very unhelpful. Probably easier just to spend £100 on a new one.
One other thing - do you have a car with a metalised windscreen or heated front screen (some Fords, most Pugs and Renaults)? They can prevent satnavs from ever getting a lock. The best way to get round this that I've found is to leave it in an open space outdoors just before installing it in the car - once they have a lock they can generally keep it, despite the screen.0 -
Hi Fwor, thanks again for the reply.Car is a Skoda Octavia 53 plate as far as I know theres no heated windscreen. When we have been going away Ive generally tried putting in the postcodes etc indoors but never have got a "sat lock" so when its put in the car it use to calculate fairly quickly .
Must admit im very, very dissapointed with it.Ive never relied 100% on it as I've always checked a map... Not really sure what sat navs are good now as I looked at plenty of reviews before buying this pile of !!!!.. Thank again again Fwor0
