Incapacity/Disability

Hi, I have been claiming incapacity benefit since 2007, i was recently told to claim disability allowance, if i do will incapacity stop or does it run along side disability. i cant find any info anywhere. cheers :j

    If you qualify for dla, it will run alongside incapacity benefit. I claim both, they are paid seperately.

    Also opens up the possibility of Income Support being claimed although being a means tested benefit it will take everything into account including household income, savings etc.

    I already get housing/counciltax benefit will i have to inform them about any disability i may get.

    I would get help with the form (cab maybe) as its a nightmare. Lucky our local cab has a lady who specialises in these forms and she will either come to the local doctors surgery or the house to help me fill it in.
    If you word one thing wrong, they can reject the claim and you end up having to appeal.

    I also get housing/council tax benefit. Can't remember if I had to tell them but its worth it so that they cannot turn around in a few years time and say you didn't tell them a change of circumstances.

    YES, if DLA is awarded you will be entitled to a disability premium.

    if you thin that being awarded dla might qualify you for income support, apply for income support when you apply for dla and then you will be able to get the income support fully backdated.
