Eon, 960 clubcard points or £28 what would you choose?

I am at present on FixOnline3 from Eon and will spend £960 approx for my gas and electricity after discounts and will get 960 Tesco points.
If I switch to Eon FixOnline5 the exact same gas and electricity will cost me £932 after discounts but no Tesco points:( because the discount is 24.5% rather than 22.2%
So I will switch to FixOnline5 as I would rather have the £28 than 960 Tesco points
So to the Eon rep, if I switch back in the future to a tariff that gives Tesco points will I still get 1 point for every £1 as I have been with Eon for 2 years?
And will Eon recaclulate my direct debit as I am now using £100 less gas a year because of increased insulation and now turning my pilot light off in the summer, or will Eon wait until the April bill when I will be in credit?
At present I am paying £102 per month DD

Hi Rob,
In future if you change back to a tariff that does offer Tesco points you will go on to 1 Tesco point for every £2 payment.
In regards to your Direct Debit payments, I would suggest leaving your payments until the April review, you could then have a refund of your credit and ask for the monthly amount to be recalculated. As you say your usage will now be lower, this will also be reflected on your account by then.

HelenaHi Sunil
It is the date you registered your Tesco Clubcard with us that determines the number of points awarded for every £1 spent on energy.
So long as you are on a qualifying tariff and registered your card before 1 March 09, you will receive 1 point for every £1 spent on energy until further notice.
If you are on a qualifying tariff now, switch to a non-qualifying product and then back to a qualifying one, you will continue to receive the same number of points per £1 spent whilst on each qualifying product.
Therefore, in the example you mention, 1 point for every £1 spent will apply for the time on Save Online; no points will be awarded whilst on Fixonline 5; but moving back to a qualifying tariff will again earn 1 point for every £1.
This will continue unless you change the card registered or we review the offer. Not aware of any plans for a review at the moment.
Hope this answers your question Sunil. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

960 Tesco points are worth between £9.60 and £38.40 depnding on how you use them, therefore the answer really depends on how you personally use your Tesco clubcard points.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi molerat,
Really sorry for the confusion on this one
In the situation of moving from a Tesco tariff to a non Tesco tariff then back to a Tesco tariff in the future, you would go on to the new scheme of 1 point for every £2 payment received.
As returning to a qualifying tariff would be classed as a new Tesco clubcard registration with E.ON and receive the lower amount of points.
Hope this clears things up.

Hi,
My post above is correct, I got this double checked today.
Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Helena, If I change from FixOnline3 to FixOnline5 will I be charged any penalty/cancellation charge, as Eon seem to be changing the goalposts ever so very slightly;)?
Not bothered about the Tesco clubcard points as I hardly ever shop in Tesco nowadays.

I'm tempted to ask why you raised the query in the first palce?0 -
I'm tempted to ask why you raised the query in the first place
I'm wondering that myself now, I think I'm becoming obsessed about saving miniscule amounts of money. I mean, the difference between 960 Tesco points and 2.3% of £960.
I was even considering turning my pilot light off at night but my wife vetoed that idea.
I think I will stop reading this forum and take up gardening. This retirement lark isn't all its cracked up to be.

Don't forget that 960 tesco points is worth up to £38.40 in tesco partner deals.0
