Telephone extension wiring?

I was given a extention kit .. but no insructions ... one end is a standard phone jack and the other end is bare wires..

I have red, blue, white & green wires ..

but no idea what colours go where?? ..

    I recon you should have a plug on the other end, by 'gave' I assume someone had it kicking around but it is incomplete. Yo need a specialist tool for fixing the wires in.
  • I have the extention box for the other end it has 6 scew slots of the cables to go in ..

  • If you have a broadband connection through your phone line, its performance could be adversely affected by attaching the ring wire. Unless you have an old phone or an unusual piece of equipment (such as an alarm), you only need to attach the wires to pins 2 and 5. If you don't connect the others, cover the ends with some insulating tape if they have already been stripped.
  • Unscrew the standard line jack that is connected to one end of the lead and see what colours are connected to terminals 2 and 5 and then as tentonine has said connect those colours to terminal 2 and 5 on your existing line jack.
