Redundancy payment from government?

Ex husband has just informed me that he went to work today only to be told that he no longer has a job because the company has folded. He has worked for the same small firm for four and a half years but has been told he will only recieve last weeks wages as the firm is no longer solvent and he will have to apply to the government for a redundancy payment! Has anyone any idea how to go about this? Obviously he will have to apply for jsa & hb but does anyone have any advice on how he should proceed please
Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!

He will also be entitled to 4 weeks notice, (ie 1 week for each year of employment) if he is just getting 1 then the other 3 can be also claimed from the government.
4 weeks redundancy pay (if he is under 41 years of age) 6 weeks if he is over 41 years of age.
HB is means tested so it depends on household income
Have a look at the ACAS site under redundancies.
Hope he finds something soon.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You can claim your payment from the Redundancy Payments Office (RPO) if your employer is declared legally insolvent. This generally means liquidation, administration, receivership, bankruptcy or a voluntary arrangement with creditors. The insolvency practitioner dealing with the affairs of your employer will give you an applications form RP1 and information publication.
If your employer is not legally insolvent and you have an employment tribunal award, which he or she has not paid, you can apply to the RPO for payment.Mortgage Free as of 31/5/11 :j:j:j:j:j:j:j0
