Worm and Flea treatment where do I get it from?

Gosh I really need 'L' plates ! We have adopted a little 2 year old JRT and have had her for about 6 weeks now. It seems that we need to give her flea and worm treatment but I don't know where to get it from! I went to Pets at Home and they seemed to be pushing a really expensive brand.

I have just read the dogs notes, from Dogs Trust, and it seems she was given Flea and worm treatment (Advocate). 7 days later Drontal Plus Flavoured Tabs. I would like to keep her on the same as there is no note of an alergic reaction.

I am a complete beginner.... where on earth would I get this from?

TIA

From the vets, you can ask for a repeat prescription and buy the same stuff online (e.g. Vet UK) cheaper.

We get Drontal and Frontline from Vet UK as well. Bought it from a chemist last year when walking in Devon and the dog got covered in ticks:eek: - was a lot more than Vet UK!

    Eeek, ticks.
Gosh darn evil little gits, will not be happy when tick season starts up again.
My girls always get them on their ears, no matter what treatments they have had and are horrendous to remove, luckily between us and special tweezers and a steady hand we can remove them entirely and safely.
    But still, yeucccccch!

Oh my goodness! The joys !

I didn't know anything about this when we brought her home.

I am worried about buying online incase I am buying a 'fake' product that could cause the dog some harm.

Could someone give me an idea of the cost of prescription, and Advocate from... where?.... the chemist??

    TIA

There is really no need to worry about fake products as long as you buy from a well known on-line pharmacy...Bestpet, Medicanimal, Vet uk to name just a few. Prescription charges vary widely between various vet practices, with some being so high it is barely worth the extra bother to have to order separately online.
As this is a new dog, and you are still wearing L plates, I would suggest it may be diplomatic to buy recommended meds from your vet for the meantime....you want to get to know your vet and for them to get to know your dog. This is a very important relationship and even just taking your doggy in to say Hi to the vet nurses when you are buying these things can help forge those bonds.
If you choose to pop in out of main surgery hours most nurses will have time for a chat and you can ask questions etc which could prove invaluable.
Meanwhile do some research into online prices, prescription charges and then a few months down the line you might feel more secure in making that change.
Yes we all want to save money....but vets really can provide a great all round health service and that is not to be ignored!

Last year I noticed our local co op pharmacy selling Drontal wormers.

As Paddy says, best to go and register with your vet if you havent already - they will weigh her and give you the right amount of tabs.

Just a query - have you got this little one insured yet?

Ours have never had ticks (fingers crossed), I guess you get them more in certain areas of the country. Ive seen hedgehogs with them on though round here. Im always worried about that Lymes (?) disease you can get from them.
