    At risk of taking this thread way off topic, I'm seriously considering it. Basically my job is a bit wobbly at present so money I have in savings I want to keep in case of trouble.

    That being the case we are taking some time whilst hopefully things stabilise to carefully plan what we want to do and in what order. This house is probably our forever house (unforseens permitting) so we can afford to take our time and get it just right. At the moment we are seriously considering both solar PV and rainwater harvesting but the biggest problem I have at the moment is knowing who the trustworthy suppliers are! I suspect nothing will actually happen for a year or so in our case. If its any help segen have a useful site which lets you see some figures on costs and returns - obviously its only indicative but might give you some ideas.
