re-connecting hot feeds to dishwasher etc

İ have been told conflicting information about whether it is energy effficient to use the hot feeds on my washing and dishwasher machine--i have recently had a new combi with a big hot water volume installed and wonder if it is time to examine reconnecting-(i know many modern washing machines dont even have a hot water feed)before i had a hot water tank(emersion) and oil heating,-i live in a 4 bed 2 floored flat -if that affects things!

Not only is it energy inefficient but the d/w and w/m are designed to work on cold water only. Their individual performance will be reduced substantially if you try and feed them hot water.

Added to which modern dishwashers use so little water (mine does a whole cycle in 10 litres - not all drawn at once) that most of what they draw from a hot feed would be the "dead leg" - i.e. the cooled water remaining in the pipe, leaving the water that the boiler had fired to heat sitting cooling in the pipes.
