Grundfoss central heating pump, whats speed is best?

Hi, my dad has just had his loft insulation updated and recently also had the central heating flushed out too, and the plumber advised he have the pump set to the setting number 1 of 3 on their red grundfoss pump. I also have the same pump running a total of 8 radiators and a towel rail, Glowworm Fuelsaver F boiler. What setting would you recommend I have my pump on? What bearing does this have on the heating? Will I save any gas or keep the rooms warmer? Sorry I don't understand what the settings are for!

The settings are for the speed of the pump and hence it increases the speed of the water flow around the CH system.

The water flow is a component to be considered when 'balancing' the radiators in the CH system. i.e. ensuring that all the radiators will reach the correct temperature.

The speed you have set depends upon your system.

I think one approach would be to select the lowest speed (cheapest to run, electricity wise) and see if all the radiators still work correctly. If they do, leave as is. If they don't, then try the next fastest speed.

You will need to measure the flow and return temp of the radiators to get the correct pump speed.

David above has given the answer, and I believe that temperature differential depends on the type of boiler - Combi, Condensing etc.

Again as said above, I suggest you have it on the lowest speed, turn on fully all radiators, wait a while and see if they all reach the same heat.
  • Great, will do guys thanks for your replies.
