If I can get a 1000 off a private sale price then its worth going. Anyone been recently ?

There are some benefits by buying private, you get to test drive the care before buying, you can ask questions, you can barter, also you don't have to pay any buying premium.

Completely agree. Don't forget that at auction you can only inspect the car externally - they are all locked. The only time you can hear them or poke your head inside is when they are being driven slowly into the auction room. Which is why we only looked at 3 year old ex-lease cars, anything older than that and it's a gamble.

Golf/A3 auto for under £6000 will b hard to find anywhere. Even more so with less than 60k on.

Just looking on auctionview and there are 69 Golf and A3 auto's.

53 plate Golf 1.6 Match auto in black at Blackbushe. mileage not stated at this point, but it'll probably be a VT from Blackhorse.

51 plate 1.6 SE auto done 71kin silver at Peterborough.

Otherwise they are all 55/56/07 plates that will be £10,000...

I agree, I've bought 3 cars in the past from auction making considerable savings but they've all been 2 years or less old which meant that came with the backup of a manufacturer's warranty.

    thanks everyone for your comments.
,i'm looking at a 05 golf 2.0 GT FSI auto with 66000 for just under £6000 from a dealer which seems a good price but if it looks ok i'll get a RAC check done as it could be money well spent. Good price ?
