I am currently looking for a new phone line i have the phone line point in my house which has a dial tone when you lift the reciever but when i have rang up numberous companies they want me to have an engineer come out to give me a ''new line'' but i dont need it! i have been quoted anything from £59-£125 but when i first applied to BT they said my line would be fine, then when i decided to look else where they have now decided i WILL have to have an engineer visit!?! I have looked all over and cannot find a company who will reconnect a line, so far i have tried madasafish (poor customer service and no reply on a new line for 3weeks) talk talk, BT(who want me to pay the connection charge AND a £50 deposit,Sky (i cant have because i cannot get a sky tv signal so therefore i cannot have their landline)
I desperatly need a land line and dont want to have to pay an arm and a leg to have one, does anybody have any ideas or even companies who wont charge a fortune?
Thanks in advance!

All suppliers will be charged by Openreach to set the line up. It's up to the individual supplier as to whether they pass on that charge to you, or subsidise it by supplying it to you free or at a reduced charge hoping you'll make lots of calls.
BT have a free connection offer as long as you're prepared to put up with their dire customer service for 18 months and take their broadband too - details on a thread on here, or on the BT site.
Personally I'd pay the charge and have someone else connect it. Anyone else
Edit to add: if you can get cable, as well as getting better broadband, I think the setup fee is more like £30.0 -

I refuse to go with BT in anyway their customer service is horrendous, i just want some where that offers either a cheap or free new line installation. If i have the phone point in my house i shouldnt have to pay this fee anyway should i?0 -
The fee is pretty well charged all the time now. If the line was previously connected to the supplier you choose to go with, there may not be a charge. However it's all a little vague.
Openreach have the monopoly on the lines, and can charge the supplier if they see fit, which then gets passed on to you. There is no competition in this aspect of the telephony market.0 -

If you have a BT socket with a dial tone, BT should connect you FOC. They are still offering free connection/reconnection until 16/2, but you must take their line rental.
The presence of a socket itself does not give you free connection, the normal BT charge is £122.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
