Unfortunatley all my friends (and OH) are shorter than me and i always think i look ridiculous stood towering over them :rotfl:

I've lost 3 stone and have put holes in belts to keep my trousers up lol its not good!
Well done on the weight loss - thats a great amount
This is another reaosn why I keep putting off making an appointment as I am trying to lose weight and don't see the point in going and spending a lot of money on clothes that might not be any good if I lose weight.I dont OWN any skirts - I couldnt even tell you the last time i wore one TBH - as for the dress i own - i brought it to attend a wedding and that is the only time ive worn it. The only colours i wear are Black, White, Red and Green. Would be nice to have a rainbow of a wardrobe.
I used to be the same but then I found a style of dress that actually suits me and since then I love wearing skirts and dresses. Maybe you just haven't found the right style for you yet - you never know maybe they might be able to find one for you.
Good luck let me know how you get on with your appointment - I can't wait till I eventually manage to go for mine

Just to add, being much the same kind of person as you are
that a friend who is a real fashionista advised against using personal shoppers on Saturdays as you get the Saturday girls who are not nearly as experienced. Go during the week when you get the full timers
HTH I will be really interested to hear how you get on, I'm tempted to try it myself but a little bit nervous about it

Hi, well done on your weight loss:Tsomething that helped me when I was in a similar situation to you was to pick a celeb whose style I like and copy them, try to pick some one with a similar shape/size to you also take note of colours and accessories, with enough research online you might not need a style consultant, also have a look at the dressed up/down thread on here, great bunch of girls of all ages shapes etc and then get down to primark, you cant beat it for a quick cheap update;)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

I'm 25 (i did put it somewhere in origional post)
I usually shop at Next but they have this thing where you can rate the clothes online and all the stuff i have brought have comments from people in their 40s (no offence anyone over 40!)

If you want to look trendy and modern instead of looking like your mother start shopping in Topshop instead of Next. I'm 31 and like you I wear jeans/tops/hoodies a lot. But my jeans are skinny jeans not bootcut and they are worn with ugg boots or flip flops in summer as I'm not a fan of heels either.
Jeans in Topshop are probably around £50. Start with one pair and a few tops from Primark (go back, it's not that bad but it's very self-service rather than customer service).
I'd advise against spending a lot. Looking trendy requires an ongoing effort rather than an initial investment. If you can work out a style that suits you then you can pick things up really cheap in sales.
Another idea= tea dress + boyfriend cardigan + black opaque tights + ballet flats.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
As Glowgirl says I would also suggest joining the dressed up dressed down thread on here. Everyone is really friendly and have great ideas on how to put different pieces together to make a fresh and young looking outfit

That's a great idea. I know somebody said on another thread that Next sells really well on ebay.
You should also make an appointment to get your make-up done at one of the beauty counters. Again don't pay unless the cost can be redeemed against purchases. And get your hair cut/coloured if necessary. The overall look is never just about the clothes.
Other shop recommendations, Dorothy Perkins and New Look. Sometimes just looking in different shops to your usual ones can inspire you.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
re heels and height, I'm 5 foot five and a half.
My dh is about 5.7/5.8 I think. In a lot of my shoes I'm taller than him, and while there are occasions I seek to avoid it, often including his work dos, I don't avoid it completely. If I were taller anyway I'd simply go for it. 0 -
ok - ive gone and done it - I have an appointment on Friday 19th (only day im available unless i wanted the weekend sales girl which one of you lovely ppl advised against) at 12:30 with a man called James. IM BRICKING IT
Im leaving mother at home (babysitting
lol) a
Im not going to spend alot - not very MSE for a start - but i AM going to buy some "key items" so that i can use some of the tops etc i already own.
I havent been in TopShop for YEARS - I used to work on the freedom counter when i was younger lol - But then once i put the weight on i didnt really feel comfortable there so avoided at all costs!
DP - i like their tank tops as they are long but this is something i need to stay away from i think
Ive seen a niec dress on ASOS but i generally dont suit dresses so will wait to see what happens on the 19th
fingers crossed
(P.S - OH says he doesnt like it when i wear heels so thats a no-no atm!)0 -
Oooh good luck

Really hope that the expeirence is a good one. Did you go for Debenhams in the end? Please let me know how you get on - you never know it might spur me on to actually book an appointment. I've been saving all the vouchers I've got from doing shop and scan for the day when I book my visit and am now up to £300 so that could get me quite a lot of stuff. One day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170
