NHS Pay Scales

Does anyone know the increments in Band 5 - 20,710 to 26839?

My girlfriend got her job in April last year but was told contrary to her contract she would not recieve a 6 month increment. Aparently others in team didnt get them.

Anyway, we spotted she did indeed get it in October and her payslip now reads "next increment 27/04/10.

Anyone know the next point on the scale? Shes on the second point - £21,318

    Ok i found it

    Band 5
    Point 16 20,710
    Point 17 21,318
    Point 18 22,152
    Point 19 23,019
    Point 20 23,345
    Point 21 24,013
    Point 22 24,831
    Point 23 25,829
    Point 24 26,839

I dont remember the scale having that many points though? That would mean it would take her about 9 years to get to the top?

If I recall correctly the job description only listed 4 or 5 increments, ie. 5 years to get to the top.

6 months incriments are not the norm I have been in the NHS for 15 years and they have always been annual. The scales changed recently to give a higher top point.

IIRC you get a scale point once a year and a inflation-type pay rise once a year, they fall about six months apart.

Hi you only get a yearly increment that falls on the day you started your banding in NHS also due to Agenda For Change the increment points have increased in the scale, which due to your PDP can be up to your manager how you progress up the scale, hope that helps :)

    Interesting article about increments here:

I don't think there have been any new guidelines to say that there is no six-month increment.

The increment should be annual subject to getting through the "gateways" after the first and penultimate bands. Most of us can't be bothered to enforce these though, performance has to be pretty dire before a manager would consider witholding a gateway increment.

Increments are annual, on the anniversary of taking up the post, as already stated by others.
But hopefully your GF will secure a Band 6 position long before she gets to the top of Band 5 ;)

Newly Qualified healthcare professionals entering on band 5 will have accelerated progression in their first year - so having an increment at 6 months and then 12 months. Thereafter increments are every 12 months.

This is not an automatic increment newly qualified staff have to go through preceptorship to get their increment after six months in post.
