Is this accurate?

Very briefly, I am a full time student, and my partner who currently works part time is looking to leave work, as our daughter has just been granted DLA at the high rate of the care aspect (no mobility as shes under 3)
I did the calculator on the DirectGov website, and its come up with results including 178 per week Child tax credits, assuming my partner has left work at the time of the calculation.
We have another child who is 7 by the way.
Basically, our decision is hinged on this child tax credit figure, but its hard to duplicate the figure on other calculators, such as the HMRC site.
Can anyone give me an insight on how this figure is achieved?
Thanks

    Hi allan,

If your daughter gets HRC she will get a severe disability premium within CTC. Will your partner be claiming Carers allowance?

    :D
  • Hi, if it is any help, I get £168 a week CTC for two children. Included in that is the disability element and the severe disability element as my son receives HRC DLA. My children are 10 and 11 (I don't know if that makes any difference).

    I also get £53.10 a week Carer's Allowance.
  • DX2 yes she will be claiming carers allowance.

Kingfisherblue, I had read this is £80 give or take?

But its good to know that the figures appear to be correct. Thanks guys.

  • No SH1305. Other child is 7, in school, and no DLA. Why?

Just to make you aware also that CA is counted as income for tax credit purposes.

I'm not sure what you mean Allan. mind you, it's early and I've not had a good night with my son, so maybe it will make more sense to me later :o
  • Sorry Kingfisher. I meant that I thought CA was around £80 a week, but someone else has cleared this up, and it is definitely £50 something (thanks Leemack)
Also DX2, I didnt know this about CA being tax accountable. Hopefully the DirectGov website takes account of this when providing figures?!
  • Thanks Allan. Just a thought - do you get a council tax reduction for being a student? I know it isn't directly related to your query, but I thought it might be worth mentioning
