PayPal Send Money Option

Q 1.
Can she opt to have buyers use the 'Send Money' option rather than ticking the 'I accept PayPal' box, she has a basic PayPal Account and does not want to 'upgrade' so she can receive payment by cc/dc then have to pay a % of her 'earnings' to PayPal for the pleasure of selling about 25-30 books (her words not mine).
Q 2.
Can she advertise her books at a set price and offer free P&P?, ie £3.45 - Free P&P. Would it be legal as per Ebay's rules, can't find anything on this forum either way.
This would be her first time selling anything on Ebay by the way.
I sold a few bit's n pieces last year so am no expert either, it did put me off trying to sell the rest though when I had to pay both Ebay Fees + PayPal % for receiving the money so have'nt bothered again but I would also be interested to know what the thoughts of all you expert Ebayers out there are on this one.

Re: Q2.
Of course she can sell at a fixed price 'But It Now' and charge free P + P but make sure that the price reflects the realistic price of the item and the postage combined.
Also remember that her fees will be based on the final price so she will effectively being paying fees on the p+p ellement of the buy it now price so I would charge a fair and realistic price for the p+p and then give single buy it now price.
Not sure about paypal question but I am sure someone else will be able to answer that one.0 -
If she wants less hassle, why not suggest she sells her books via Amazon?0

I would advise she increases her accoutn to accept other payment methods as this will increase the amount of potential customers to her.
The add the ebay fees to her prices.
Yes she can offer free postage and packaging.
cheers

Not quite sure I know what you mean by this. No one has to take paypal, you can leave the 'I accept paypal' box unticked. Her other options could be cheque or postal order or she could also include bank transfers (there isn't a tick box option for that but she can just put that in her listings).
The only disadvantage in not taking paypal is of course that she may restict her sales a bit.

Many thank's jenniferpa, will tell her look at Amazon, have never sold on it so she's on her own there!.
Thank's Soolin, apparently Helen (friend) sent money to a relative via PayPal -Send Money tab at the top of page next to the welcome Tab, she say's you enter your email address and some other details and PayPal transfer the money to the recipient's account, I had a look and what I think she means is could a buyer send the money this way without Helen being charged extra by PayPal, at least I think that is what she is trying to say but she can be a bit dopey at times so I may be wrong too.
Anyway thank's to all for their helpful replies.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit0 -
Kinnairdy, it doesn't matter how a person sends money via paypal it is the *type* of receiving account that determines whether a fee will be paid or not.
If your friend ticks the 'I accept paypal ' box then she must have a premier paypal account and will be charged for every thing she receives. If she tries to sell with just a basic account then she won't pay fees but she can't tick the 'I accept paypal' box and can only take payment via an existing paypal balance..ie anyone using a card to send payment using the send payment tab in paypal will trigger the 'upgrade now' message on her paypal account.

Thank's Soolin,
Will pass that on, hopefully Helen will understand how it works now.
When I sold some of my odd n ends last year I got that message and clicked then forgot about it, never had any problems receiving payments, obviously why, did get a bit miffed by the charges though which is why I closed the PayPal Account and never listed what was left over, intended taking it to a car boot but it is still hiding in a corner somewhere gathering dust, one day perhaps when I can be bothered.
I am so glad I found this web site and the forums, I learn something new every day too.:DSpeak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit0
