    Hi ariane

just thought id give you my experience for what its worth :)

my partner has agraphobia too combined with panic attacks, anxiety, depression etc in a nut shell cant/doesnt go anywere without me he as been on IB since sept 2005, tried for DLA in 2007 and were declined and my partner wouldnt appeal.
Anyway i trawled the net and found out from various sources that to say on the form that "due to agraphobia he doesnt go out" apparently is a fatal mistake as someone said above, they take it that if he doesnt go out then he doesnt need any care/support.
I managed to convince him to let me try again for it last year, i used some brilliant info i received by email from a lovely lady whose actually wrote a book on how to fill the dla form in (can you beleive) for free, due to it being an email i cant post a link but if anyone needs it to fill form in just let me know, its brilliant for mental health claims and it worked for us .
My partner was awarded medium rate care and low rate mobility so i now claim carers for him, so worked out well thank god as i know how hard it is to fill in the forms and actually get a positive result.Needless to say i photocopied the form and its stashed away ready for the renewal date ;) you live and learn

people could PM you for help (if your a PM user) or you could copy and paste if someone needs your help.

With DLA its the luck of the draw, you fill in the forms with help and get an award or fill in the forms without a clue and get nothing at all.

I have never had a problem with the forms for me but im struggeling to do it for my husband because his ilnnesses are so very diffrent to mine, I am a deaf wheelchair user and he has stage 4 kidney failure and a small tumour.

Unfortunately, forgetting about it is a luxury those of us with chronic anxiety cannot afford!

Sorry by 'forget about it' I just meant the forms and all the stress of worrying wether you worded everything right and explained everything well, using all the key terms they'll be looking out for.

If you need help completing the forms, the Citizen Advice Bureau normally has at least one person designated to help you do just that. Give your local office a ring.

rodeo - did he have any documentary evidence aside from the form itself? Thank you very much for your advice. It's much appreciated. Is it possible for you to point me in the direction of the email/book? Your experience is worth a lot to me! :j

No he had no documentary evidence i filled it all in myself very slowly and carefully so they just went off the form .They didnt even send a doctor out like they did the first time, I cant for the life of me remember what site i got info from but have just sent someone the stuff i was sent as they pmd me and i emailed it, as they are 2 pdf files, and sorry but only know how to email thats the limit of my computer knowledge :)

If "you fill in the forms with help and get an award or fill in the forms without a clue and get nothing at all" that has nothing to do with the luck of the draw! That is to do with lots of preparation or none at all. Luck of the draw is for peple who do nothing.

It depends on the quality of the help though - I applied for a Community Care Grant when I was homeless after a lifetime of abuse, had not a single thing to my name and got offered a house which I needed to furnish. I had all the help that was available and was turned down, by one individual, who said I didn't qualify (I spoke to him on the phone and he told me that CCGs weren't "for people like me" meaning single people, which is crap) and when I appealed I did it myself with no help at all, had a lengthy telephone interview and got an award.

I dont need help as such but its very difficult to apply for DLA for kidney failure and other heath problems.
